Subject: Redesigning distributed warehousing and distribution centres

Question
I am working with a manufacturing company that has an extensive network of warehouses and distribution centres. The company has recently acquired several other companies and is planning to redesign its warahousing and distribution system. Am a member of the team charged with the redesigning project. What would you say is the general approach or standard approach to the redesigning process. who should we involve and what processes and tasks should we review?

Answer
While every company's process may be different, there are some standard considerations that must be accounted for. These would include type of products, rackig feasability, turn times, and annual turns.
If you are looking at several facilities, it may be well worthwile to enlist the help of an industrial engeneering firm. A well planned out facility can dramatically reduce labor costs.
