Question Hello Mr.Willet,
I am a student researcher at the University of Calgary consulting with a local company to help them find a warehouse management system for their operations. However, I do not know some basic information which I would like to find out. I really appreciate your help, thank you very much! Below are 3 questions that I have:
1. What kind of operating system do ERPs use (do they have their own)? Can they integrate with Windows o/s?
2. Are warehouse management systems part of ERP packages or are they standalone applications that get installed on top of an existing o/s such as Windows?
3. How is data collected from barcodes transferred to a back-end database?
Once again, thank you very much for your help.

I'm afraid this is outside my area of expertise. I am familiar with the WMS utilized by 3PLs, which is a freestanding system. I do not know what systems ERPs use or how they are integrated. I suggest you check out the ERPs directly to find out their solutions.
