Question
Dear Larry,
I am setting up a warehouse for the first time. I have no idea what so ever in warehouseing. I want to lean the basic of setting up a warehouse. My warehouse is a 10,000 sqft space. Where can i learn about the different types of systems people use to organize their warehouses? i want to learn the best way to store good in your warehouse and how to best use the space. Also my main problem is that good ill be storing will be made of glass to i want to minimize brakeage in the warehouse. Im hopping there is a full system in place that i can implement to make sure i keep trace to incoming and outgoing stock, dead stock, fast moving stock, different size of stocks and also finding the stock to despatch with in point accuracy. Im looking for manuals, books or mythologies in setting up a warehouse.

Answer
Good luck with your new warehouse. I suggest you check the websites IWLA.com and CSCMP.org for books. There are a number of "logistics magazines" that you can find on the web that will have back articles available. There are also several sources for "logistics white papers". Just use Google and I'm sure you will find some help.

Larry
