Warehousing - Warehouse Management Systems

Expert: Janet J. Prior - 3/21/2002

Question
Dear Ms. Prior,

I'd be very interested in knowing your thoughts on how to develop a professional relationship with individuals such as yourself. The primary purpose being to position our warehouse management software for their consideration during a client engagement.

The product that I represent is called Savant and is owned by a company in Phoenix, Executive Performance Systems. It's very robust, scalable, cost effective, etc. etc. and an ideal solution for companies in the middle market. Some of our clients are companies such as Intel, Motorola, EMI, and many others. It's easily integrated into many of the leading software packages and/or can be run stand alone.

Our current sales model is 2 fold; direct and through channel partners involved in the sale of back office accounting solutions. The problem with this is market penetration due to the lack of warehouse expertise. My thoughts are that if we can win over consultants who specialize in this area, we can generate more revenue.

We certainly want to be above board on all our relations. And we in no way want to jeopardize anyone's independence. Our partner program consists of 3 levels; recommenders, sales & marketing only, stand alone partners (sell and implement). At each level we have a very generous compensation plan.

I welcome your thoughts.

Answer
You can become involved with professional organizations, such as the Council of Logistics Management, Warehouse Education Research Council and Industry related venues.  Each group provides educational and meeting opportunities for you to meet with other logistic professionals.

CLM has a local roundtable in Phoenix that has meetings five or six times a year.

Good Luck.

Janet Prior
