Question How long does it take for a mothball to lose it's odor? My husband threw mothballs under the house to get rid of skunks that seem to hide there, but now the inside of my house smells like mothballs in certain areas and of course the outside smells as well. Will they eventually break down? It would be impossible for anyone to climb under the house to retrieve them. Any suggestions on what I could do would be greatly appreciated.
Answer Unfortunately, moth balls do not break down very easily or quickly. The odor will be with you for some time to come.
Sadly there is not much you can do to reduce or nullify the odor other than removing the moth balls which you might want to if there is any way to get at them.
There is a chemical substance in moth balls that have been known to contribute to some health issues such as asthma or other similar lung ailments. You might want to go onto the Internet to obtain additional information about this product including harmful effects.
Wish I could help more, this is a little out of my area of expertise, but I also did a little research on the subject because someone else had the same problem about a year ago.
Please let me know if I can help in any other way.
