Water Quality - water softener problem

Expert: Steve Young - 10/29/2009

Question
I have a Kinetico K30 water softener.  It has been working fine for about 18 years.  Now when the unit is about to regenerate/clean, the water pipes close to the unit vibrate.  I overcome this by either turning the by-pass valve on and off OR by manually rotating the control disk until the water begins to run at the drain.  I am getting conflicting messages from the supplier  it coud be the head  -  it could be the resin in the filter tanks ???????

Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Jim,
It sounds to me like it's in the valve assembly.  I can't imagine how the resin would cause this.  That's a new one on me!
I would talk with Kinetico and find out how to check the control valve assembly.  It may just need to be cleaned or some other internal part needs to be replaced.
That's all I can think of that would cause this.  Let me know if you have any questions or if there is something else I can help you with.
Take care,
Steve
