Waterskiing - Choosing a new water ski

Expert: April - 5/3/2003

Question
I have used the same water ski from the time I was 12 years old until present.  I believe it is a laminated wood ski termed a "taper flight".  I have slalomed since I was around 9; although, I haven't skied for several years.  I would like to buy a new ski.  I am a 40+ yr old female, 5 ft. 6 in.  Any advice on a new ski?

Answer
Libby,
The best skis now for people who enjoy slalom skiing but haven't done it in a while or who don't get to do it often enough to keep the soreness away, are the shaped skis.  The Obrien Synchro is my personal favorite and seems to work the best here at the ski school with the students.  You'll need a 66".

If you don't want to go with a shaped ski, a 64.5" Goode will be great.  A KD 7000 in a 65 or 66" will be good too.  Good luck, April Coble Eller
