About Ken Ivey
Expertise
I've been developing websites for almost 20 years. If you have questions like these, I can help! Should I try this myself or hire a professional? What tools do I need? How do I sell products online? How do I make money with my website? Can I create a website without buying expensive software? How do I design a website FAST? How do I market my website? Is a BLOG a website? How do I put video on my website? What is website hosting? When will search engines find my website? OK, I've found a site I like - but now what? Can I make my website a subscription site?

Experience
I have over 20 years of practical experience with web-related issues, and some military computer training. I've worked for a computer manufacturer, and own a small technology company specializing in web-design, hosting, and internet media production. I am the webmaster of several sites, and e-newsletter editor for Rotary District 6760 which is comprised of 65 clubs throughout middle Tennessee.

Education/Credentials
I'd like to say a diploma from a revered educational facility hangs on my wall, and perhaps someday it will. In reality, everything I know has been self-taught, much of it done so in the hallowed halls of that venerable institution called "The School of Hard Knocks". (I have taken courses at a local community college, and received military computer programming training as well.)

Question
Hi Ken,

I just happened upon this ask-a-question website a moment ago, and quickly found your profile.  I'm looking to create a pretty basic website with only a couple bells and whistles.

The first thing I want to do is have a video on my website.  I don't know the first thing about placing a video on a website.  The video will be anywhere from
1-2minutes long, and I want it to start playing immediately when a visitor to my site comes along.  I don't want them to have to click on a link, wait for it to load, and then view it.  I want it to be automatic and fast.

Where do I begin?  Can I place a video like this on Godaddy's "Website Tonight" service or do I need a more sophisticated platform upon which to work?

Any info you have for me would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Tom -

I have limited experience with Godaddy's Website Tonight, and it's been mostly frustrating.  It's easy to spend ALL NIGHT working on Godaddy and still not have a Website TONIGHT!!

If you want something FREE & FAST, start a BLOG - they make things pretty simple.  (If it needs to be professional, visit my website & I'll give you a great deal)

As for the video, you'll need a good editing package that will export to web-friendly formats.

I'm currently reviewing a great package, but don't have the link in front of me - send me an e-mail & I'll get it to you in a few hours.  (I'm off to a board meeting).

I hope this helps - have a great day!

Ken
