Web Design/Playing MP3s on Web oages
Hi Jamison (Great name!)
I'm planning to add 9 pages of mp3 voice audio file lessons to my English Teaching website. I thought that the simple html code in the pages (e.g.That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
</b></font></p><br>) would allow the file to be played in the user's default mp3 player. But, in offline testing, it only works well in Chrome. I would like it to play in IE and Firefox as well.
The basic aim is that the student users should simply hear the file played when they click on the link in any of the three browsers. How can I achieve this? Any simple way? Can you recommend any code or simple embedded player to do this? (The player should be simple without size or color options, playlists, skins etc. etc.)
Thanks for your consideration.
These days the best way would be to declare the page as html5 <!DOCTYPE HTML>. Then use html5 audio/video tags. You'd want a fallback to use a flash player, most likely. That would be the best most minimal way to do things.
Check out http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_sounds.asp
and scroll down to the HTML5 section. That's how I would recommend playing your audio.
<source src="horse.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">
<source src="horse.ogg" type="audio/ogg">
<embed height="50" width="100" src="horse.mp3">
If you must use a plugin player I'd suggest using http://mediaelementjs.com/
Hope this helps(and sorry for the delay, I'm on holiday)!
