Question I am preparing to start up a website of some sort on which I want to put my writing samples, so I can develop my career as a writer. None of the few dozen articles I wrote for my school newspaper around 1998 are anywhere on the Web as far as I know, and I would like to present them. Is it okay to scan them and put them on my website, or is that unethical somehow? Who else could I ask? thank you
Answer Hi David,
Presenting articles that you have written is by no means unethical. However you should consult a writer to see if your content is ethical or not. You can certainly scan your articles however it would be best if you typed it out and presented it in a PDF version. If you don't know how to convert your document to PDF you can simply write it out on your blog. You can use many free blogs out there to publish your articles online. You can go to http://www.blogger.com to create your free web blog. If you have your own website address you can do one of the following forward that address to your blog or use your web hosting account and see if they can provide a blog for your site.
There are also other ways to go about this but I would suggest to not scan your document because if someone wants to look for certain articles then they will not be able to find it unless you scan it to PDF.
Tip: Pictures are not easily found on search engines but if you go to different sites and publish your articles then people can find you.
Let me know if you have any problems with this or need further help.
