Question
Hi, I don't think this question is to do with web hosting advice, but how is the Internet connected across continents? I would have thought that wireless or satellite connection would be too slow. Are there huge cables running in the sea between the UK and the USA? Thank you for your answer, Harry

Answer
Harry,

This is really a question for a networking guru, which I'm not. Will take a try at being helpful, hope I am.

As far as I know the computers which make up the Internet are connected through the worldwide communications system, possibly about the same way that telephones are.

This probably involves a combination of cables running around the world, satellites, and other wireless mechanisms like microwave.

Hope this is helpful,

Marty
