Question -
When surfing if someone tries to call me their phone just rings and I have no way of knowing that there is an incoming call. This is on the new "MSNTV-2" On the old webtv plus there was sensitivity settings that handled this problem, but not so on this new setup. Any suggestions?
Answer -
I dont know anything about the new unit, but it does surprise me that it doesn't have a call interupt setting like the old boxes do.
I have two suggestions for you.
One is, call I-800-gowebtv and ask them for a solution to the problem.
Two is, if possible, get a seperate phone line for your unit. I lived with the problem of incoming calls and interuptions when online and it was very frustrating. If my setting was too sensitive it would kick me offline for no reason and if it wasn't sensitive enough it wouldn't kick me off for an incoming call. Then there's the problem of getting kicked offline with a real incoming call and having to reconnect.
I finally broke down and got another phone line just for my unit.
Sorry I couldnt be of much more help, but try the first suggestion and give them a call.
Good luck...
Thanks for your response, the strange thing is that the call interupt does ork about 10 percent of the time, but even then i will get between 5 & 10 rings on my cell phone b-4 it finally kicks in.
Another strange thing is that there is no mention at all of the call interupt feature in the setup guide/user guide or online in the "settings" or "help" or "using msntv"
Wen I called support I was on hold forever & gave up-lots of people setting up the new MSNTV with problems I presume- but I will try calling the number you mentioned & the number in the setup guide until i get thru.
As I recall the phone company central office sends out 100 volts of AC ring generator to ring a phone, so i'm also going to test with my voltmeter to see if i'm getting the full 100 volts. I'm about 2 miles from the central office, so the voltage might be dropping below what the receiver will recognize. Will keep you posted.
Answer I never got this followup, so I apoligize for my response being so far behind. It is interesting that there is no call interuption on the new unit. I have moved on to computer for the most part but have kept my old Sony Plus for the discuss groups.
Did you ever get a solution to the problem? I would be interested to know what you found out.
I may get other questions related to that. In the meantime, I believe two of my online friends are beta testing the new unit. I will try to ask one of them if they know anything about that issue.
Feel free to email me directly at Post_A_Hole@webtv.net as I didnt seem to get your original follow up reply.
