Question Hello Mr. Lawrence,
My problem is this. I hope you can help me!
I've had a webtv plus unit for a few years now. I had it hooked up to a mono tv thru a cable box and vcr. I recently got a new Sony stereo tv.
I have tried several hook ups and can't fix the problem of no video picture. All I get now is a blue screen with some noisy lines coming thru!
I am really getting frustrated!
Can you please help me?
Thanks!
Doug
Answer Well, let me try to help. I wish I could be there as it's easier with hands on with this kind of problem.
First try this. A basic connection. I assume your new TV is cable ready. Take the cable "out" from your webtv unit and connect it to the cable "in" on the TV. Dont run it thru any other device...IE, cable box, vcr, ect.
Hook the phone line up as normal. Everything from the web is recieved thru the phone line.
Turn on the TV and the Webtv unit...do you get anything? If so then at least we have a place to start.
You are probably aware that the TV has to be on channel 3 or 4 and there is a little button on the back of your unit that has to be set on 3 or 4. Check and make sure they are both on the same setting. Mine uses 3.
Another consideration is a lot of new TV's and Vcr's and DVD players have a setting or "channel" below channel 1 that you have to put the device, (TV,VCR,Ect), on for the picture to show. The mention of a blue screen suggests that is probably the solution.
Using the basic hookup I mentioned, and assuming that you still get a blue screen, you could press the channel down button and see if something shows. There are a bunch of names for this "channel"/setting...mostly called AUX..
From what you told me I am willing to bet your TV has to be set on some AUX setting. Try reading thru your new TV owners manual and see if it says something about this.
