About K. Lawrence
Expertise
I have expertise in making webtv email signatures as well as website design. I am patient and specific with "newbies" to the webber experience! I am on a Sony Plus and am able to answer questions regarding the video capture and audio capture features of the plus.

Experience
I have three websites. One is a very large collection of camel clipart and the other two are just fun sites where I have used some creativity to have a good time. I have gotten very good with html and table commands.

WebTV Problems - ebay sign in

Expert: K. Lawrence - 6/20/2005

Question
Been registered on ebay several yrs. and have bid and bought, now I'm unable to sign in--Ebay says its a connectivity problem with webtv. I'm a Sony webtv plus. Can you help?

Answer
I can explain, but it isn't what you are going to want to hear.

The webtv browser is no longer supported by ebay. Browser versions have improved and moved on, but Webtv has not.

For example, my Internet Explorer browser on my computer is version 9.0. AOL is about that too.
Webtv's browser version is around 5 or 5.5.

Webtv is unable to get into most "secure" sites because the browser does not recognize the new script. That's somewhat hard to explain, but it's not Ebays fault, it's MSN's fault for not keeping the browser updated.

And, I dont see MSN upgrading anytime soon, there is no incentive for them to do it. A cheap basic computer is around 500 dollars and internet access is around 10 dollars...

I have to use my computer for Ebay, Paypal and online banking in addition to anything I want to order from an online catalog.

I wish I had a way around it and/or better news but that's about the bottom line.

Originally the intent of Webtv was to have easy access to email and browser the WWW. It's still the best for that, but anything else...sorry.

Complaining to MSNTV is an option, maybe if enough voices say something...but I moved on to computer and my webtv unit is for email and browsing the WWW...

Take care...
