Weddings - Reception Instructions

Expert: Helen Joan Casper - 2/6/2008

Question
I am having an adult reception, in addition to the cocktail reception 1 hour before hand, what is the best wording to have on the cards that indicate time, and location that I send out with the invitation?  Would it be of poor taste to have the flower girl part of the reception as she is part of the wedding party since its an adult reception.

Also, what would be the best way to properly indicate formal attire because I have a feeling people will show up in clothes that are not proper for a wedding.

Answer
For the reception:

"Please join us for a cocktail hour followed by adult reception at TIME, PLACE."

If the flower girl is the only child in the wedding party, having her there is your privilege as she is an attendant. However, if there are other children in the wedding party they would need to be included as well. Depending on what will happen at this adult reception, you may want to talk to the girl's mother regarding if it is appropriate for her child.

At the very bottom of the invitation, put "Formal wear desired" Or "Semi-formal wear desired". In addition, your friends, family & wedding party should pass this information along via word-of-mouth.

Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.

Best wishes,
Helen =)
