Weddings - Wedding attire for an October Florida wedding
Expert: Helen Joan Casper - 9/22/2008
Question Hello. I've been invited to a wedding in October in Hollywood Florida at 5 in the afternoon (inside a hotel). I have no idea what to wear. I'd like to wear a dress....just not sure about the length, color, etc...any suggestions? Thanks
Answer Having lived in Fort Lauderdale, I can tell you that it is still quite warm in October. =) Inside a hotel, however, there will be air conditioning. I recommend wearing cocktail dress- mid-calf or knee length and in a earth tone to match the season. Spaghetti straps with a shawl would be appropriate as would short or cap sleeves. Floor-length would also be perfectly appropriate- just be sure it doesn't sweep the ground as anyone wearing a train other than the bride or bridal party is considered tacky. You want to stick with dressier fabrics like jacquard, silk, charmeuse, chiffon, and the like. No cotton for a fall, evening wedding!
