Question
I need to know a way to say that we don't want any gifts but money would be appreciated. After combining our two separate house holds we don't need anything except maybe a bigger house which we are planning to do as soon as we save enough money for a good size down payment. So money in loo of gifts would really help[ with the down payment, but how do you say this with out sounding like complete spoiled brats?

Answer
Dear Wynn,

I can certainly understand your situation, however, it just isn't acceptable to mention anything about gifts/money in your invitation.

What you can do is let both of your families know your wishes let them get the message out via word of mouth.  I would suggest you go ahead and register for some items that you can use because there are people who don't feel comfortable giving money and will still want to give you something.  Better to receive something you do want than something you'll never use.

You'll be surprised at how many people will bring cards instead of a gift, mainly because they're traveling to your wedding or the know your circumstances and will assume you have two of everything already!

Hope this helps.  By the way, don't forget to have a nice card box out, which can't be opened and then have someone take care of it.  You don't want any of your cards to come up missing!

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
