Weddings - wedding dinner

Expert: Weddings Etc LLC - 10/22/2009

Question
Can you have a buffet with deserts and d'oeuvres for a 5:00 pm reception. My daughter prefers that, and I say people will be expecting a full dinner.

Thank You

Answer
Hi Annette,

I would say it would depend on the type of hors d'oeuvres.  Since it is the dinner hour, if they were heavy, such as a roast, ham, turkey sliced, salads etc. then you could serve this.  However, if she's thinking of the hors d'oeuvres that are passed, then I'd recommend moving the wedding to around 3pm in the afternoon.

People will come hungry and expecting to be fed.  Either way, be sure to put hors d'oeuvre reception on the invitation so your guests won't come expecting a sit down dinner.

Hope this helps.  Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
