Weddings - How many glasses needed to rent for wedding reception?

Expert: Wendy Wuitschick - 7/23/2009

Question
Wendy,

You had previously responded to a question stating that if beer, wine, and soda/water is being served at a wedding reception, you can expect 60% to drink beer, 30% to drink wine, and the remaining 10% to drink soda.  Also, if you can expect guests to drink 2 drinks the first hour and 1 every hour thereafter, does that mean for a 4 hour wedding receptions you should rent 5 glasses per person?  So assuming around 150 guests, you would want to rent 750 glasses?

Answer
Hi Rae:

It depends on if you will have a catering staff or not.  If you do, then you can rent less glasses because they can wash and replenish them.  If not, then you can either rent fewer glasses and have the bartender explain that they will have to use the same glass for future drinks of the same kind or rent 750 so you won't have to designate a person to wash them.

I hope this helps.

Happy planning,
Wendy
