About Jerri S. Simpkins
Expertise
I am a wedding coordinator who lives to be a part of the ultimate weddings. I offer advice both dealing with the wedding, but also the emotions that pop up during this very special time. Outside of doing this as a career, I just love to help Brides and Brides-to-Be make their wedding the "Cinderella" story it should be.

Weddings - Wedding reception Ettiquette

Expert: Jerri S. Simpkins - 5/20/2004

Question
My fiancee and I both have very large families, as well as quite a few friends. What is the ettiquette on creating a Tier 1 and Tier 2 list for invitations? We would like to keep our dinner reception guests number to under 200, but if we invite everyone, we are looking at close to 325. Can we invite people to the dancing portion of the reception, and tell them to come after dinner is served? Can we send them a seperate, less formal invite stating that they are welcome to join us for drinks and dancing after dinner?  Please help... Thanks!

Answer
As far as ettiquette goes, you need to have only 1 set of invitations for the reception.

The only option I have seen for Tiers of invitations is having one set for church and reception and another for just reception.

Hope this helps.

Best Wishes,
Jerri
