Weddings - Wedding recpetion dance song ideas

Expert: Alaina and Andrea - 4/22/2006

Question
Hello - I will be getting married in June, and both my parents are deceased.  At the reception, I will share a dance with an aunt who I am very close to.  I'm looking for song ideas that would be good for that occasion.  Ideas for my bride's father/daughter dance would be helpful too - She's stumped :) - Thank you!

Answer
Charlie,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Here is a list of popular songs for brides, grooms, and parents from "The Knot" (www.theknot.com).  The songs listed for the son/mother are not specific to a son and a mother.  I think any one of these would be lovely.  Also, many of the songs in each category could be used for your dance with your aunt or for your bride's dance with her father.  I hope this is a good start for you.  For more ideas, you might try typing "wedding songs" into google and seeing what pops up.

Mother/Son Dance

1. "Blessed" (Elton John)
2. "Can I Have This Dance" (Anne Murray)
3. "Close to You" (The Carpenters)
4. "Have I Told You Lately" (Rod Stewart or Van Morrison)
5. "Loves Me Like A Rock" (Paul Simon)
6. "I Can See Clearly Now" (Johnny Nash)
7. "I Wish You Love" (Gloria Lynne)
8."In My Life" (The Beatles)
9. "Stand by Me" (Ben E. King)
10. "Through The Years" (Kenny Rogers)
11. "Unforgettable" (Nat King Cole/Natalie Cole)
12. "What A Wonderful World" (Louis Armstrong)
13. "You are the Sunshine of My Life" (Stevie Wonder)

Father/Daughter Dance

14. "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (Elton John)
15. "Daddy's Little Girl" (Al Martino)
16. "Daddy's Hands" (Holly Dunn)
17. "If I Could" (Ray Charles)
18. "Isn't She Lovely" (Stevie Wonder)
19. "Lean on Me" (Bill Withers)
20. "Lullaby" (Billy Joel)
21. "My Funny Valentine" (Carly Simon)
22. "My Girl" (The Temptations)
23. "She's Leaving Home" (The Beatles)
24. "Sunrise, Sunset" (from Fiddler on the Roof)
25. "Thank Heaven For Little Girls" (Merle Haggard)
26. "The Way You Look Tonight" (Frank Sinatra)
27. "Times Of Your Life" (Paul Anka)
28. "Turn Around" (Harry Belafonte)
29. "You Are So Beautiful To Me" (Joe Cocker)
30. "Whenever I See Your Smiling Face" (James Taylor)

Please let me know if there's any other advice I can offer.  Again, congratulations!
