Weightlifting & Exercise - Areola

Expert: Jerry Goodwin - 1/30/2009

Question
Hi, I'm a 16 year old male and i have extra body fat and a good amount of it is on my chest. My areolas (the dark skin around my nipples) are both the size of a half dollar when they are fully stretched out. I was wondering if by losing the extra weight i have on my chest and maybe even gaining muscle on my chest, will the areolas shrink at all? Because every male i see that has a fit chest does not have large areolas but the males who do have extra weight on that area of the chest do have much bigger areolas including myself. I know the sizes of areolas are genetic but i know gaining a lot weight increases their size but will they return to their normal genetic size after the weight is lost and maybe even some muscle is built in that area?

Here is a picture of a before and after of a some guy i found on google who had large areola when fat and it got smaller when he got fit. http://www.naturalphysiques.com/images/mainbeforeafter.jpg

I just want to hear it from a expert so i will feel better. Thank you!

Oh, also if you can, can you please list some exercises or tips i can do to get my chest to lose weight and get fit as fast as possible. Thank you so much!

Sorry if this was not the correct area to ask this question i think it is. But if it is not can you please tell me who to ask on here? Thanks again!

Answer
Hi Jason,

For the most part the areola will usually shrink as the skin shrinks, so as you become more fit it will be reduced. Genetics does have considerable affect on how much or how little, but most of the people I have worked with have noticed a significant difference.

You will have to lose weight overall, so you will need to follow a good nutrition plan, a heathy plan that includes plenty of high quality foods and very little junk food.

As far as exercises, as Shawn Phillips said one time when asked what exercise he did for his abs "all of them" Shawn is the author of "AbSolution" one of the best books on abs there is.

The same goes for the chest, any exercise which burns fat, which is all of them will help burn fat off the chest. Chest exercises such as Bench Press and virtually all upper body exercises will help build muscle and therefore will help build the chest and burn the fat off.

Go to www.bmgfitness.com and scroll down to the button that says free workout. click there, you will get a free pdf file that is a complete workout that works extremely well for men, young and old. I use it myself, my wife uses it and we just customize it to what we need at the time. Also at www.bmgfitness.com you can click on a button that says Free Exercise Library and find exercises for virtually any body part. Check out the new video there too on basic physiology that will help with your weight loss goals. I am working on getting several more of the videos up, so you may want to bookmark the site.

Hope this helps

Have a great day

Jerry
