I want to strengthen myself without killing myself. Should I start with running? I hope this question isn't a waste of your time. I am 6' 2 1/2" 238lbs. I hope you can help me.
Rob
Answer Hi Robert,
First and foremost, check with your surgeon and verify that you are in condition to start an exercise program. Especially after surgery this is very important.
After making sure that there are no underlying medical problems that could cause a re-injury you should be able to exercise just about like anyone else, just start slow, allow the body to make adjustments, don't overdo it.
I have a free report that may help. You can get it by sending a blank e-mail to bikeman31768@getresponse.com
You should be able to do any core exercises as long as the surgery healing is complete, but like I said get the doctors OK first. Pilates would seem to be the most likely style of exercise to use to strengthen the core and have the least amount of stress in the area.
I would actually start with walking or cycling then work up to running, but I would also incorporate some resistance exercise in with the waling, cycling running.
