Question
Karen
I am having a disagreement with a friend.WE are both early fifties.
She works out quite vigorously at the gym two to three times a week for at least an hour. The in between days are 'rest' days. She says this type of high intensity exercise is the only way, plus it raises human growth hormone levels?
I have gone with her but it takes me a couple days to recover. Then when I am fully recovered my body is stiff again so whatever benefit I got has now worn off.
I think its wiser to get SOME exercise every day for 20-30 minute. That way I am always nice and limber.
So, I jog on my treadmill at home for twenty minutes, then do some stretching and light weights. I can do this every day and instead of burning me out I am energised.
I am not trying to become a model or lose tons of weight-just keep this aging body fairly limber.
Thanks.

Answer
Hello Bar, you are both correct you have to do the workout the is right for you.  Her way is great for burning fat and weight loss.  I use this type of training for a lot of my clients.  But I also use your type of training for my clients who just want to maintain and stay in shape.

Bottom line: do something you like and work for you.  You both have found that workout, she needs to respect you and your workout and let you do your thing.

Good luck and stick with it.

Stay Motivated,

Karen
