Weightlifting & Exercise - Out look and weight

Expert: Jerry Goodwin - 3/2/2009

Question
Last week, I had a discussion about how good look a person can be in my class. All started when we were watching a movie about Physists and guys in my class realized that all the Physists were not so good looking and they set me as an example and made fun of it ( I'm in top students of class and my friends usually made fun of me that I don't know anything but studying ).

I spent a weekend to think about my out look what I never wasted my time to think about before. I realized that I'm ugly. Currently I just turned 18 and here is my starts : 5 ft 8 height and 190 lbs. I am Asian origin and I look Asian!( This is not an excuse, I'm proud of my origin but sometimes, it makes me depressed, 'cause, you know, white people look more handsome than Asians) My face is kind of roundish with short nose and many acnes on my face. Roundish face is a big issue for me. It looks really really creepy, specially my chin and cheekbones. The length to width ratio has gone down a bit, but I wish it would be more angular and less pudgy ^.^
Studying with friends who are turning to be adult and look so mature, I'm just such a child between them. Upper part of my leg near butt looks really like a child. I look in some magazines for Health and see that butt of some athletics are round-shaped and look very adult. And i also recognize I am just a bigger version of a child. Parts in my body does not grow in a mature way. My picture look like a big 5-6th grade kid's picture when you zoom in.

What should I do now to change all of my out look. I'm really depressed and hate the way I look right now. Changing diet? Do more exercise? How long can i change my out look ( i mean to look more mature ? )

P/S : This is a fact that I never concentrate so much about my out look. Now, when i look myself very carefully in the mirror, to be honest, I just want to break the mirror and sleep a long sleep. It takes all of my confidence away. You know, girls at my age acknowledge a guy base more on how he look than what is inside his brain. I want to have a girlfriend.

Answer
Hi Ron,

What makes you think white people are more handsome or more attractive than Asians? I know many white men that are married quite happily to Asian women. I even know an Asian gentlemen here that is married to a tall blonde, blue eyed American Lady.

It is very unfriendly of your so called friends to set you up as an example. You are only non attractive in their eyes and it sounds like they are total screwballs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you other than being depressed, and only you can do something about that. Exercise and diet should help give you more confidence, but if you love the studies and you excel at it you should not give up on that either.

I am 5'8 and weigh 195, I have won Silver and Bronze Medals in the Golden Olympics in 2007 and qualified for the Nationals in 2009. I also won an Army Commendation Medal during a peacetime mission. Talk to anyone in the Army and they will tell you it is MUCH Harder to get that medal in peace than in WAR.

I am definitely not the best looking guy in the world, but I can only control that so much. You can work on the acne easily and your body shape can be changed with exercise and diet. I married an absolutely beautiful red-headed girl that I went to school with and we have had 4 children and 2 grandchildren.

Here is a workout that you can do to change your body and you can get some cream like Noxema to help with the Acne. Only you can do anything about your attitude and I really believe that is your main problem. You need more self confidence. www.bmgfitness.com/workout

Let me ask you something, are there any girls there that you are attracted to. I mean are there any that you would like to meet, and maybe date? You don't have to want to marry the girl, just are there any girls there that you may want to be your friend? Maybe there are some girls there that have the same interests you do, that may want to study with you or something like that. If so ask if they would like to study together, then maybe go out for coffee, or a movie after studying, if they say no, ask another.

My friend and Mentor Mark Hendricks says it goes something like this you ask, she says no, you ask another she says no, that happens 10 times or more  before one says yes. It may even be one that you asked before and she had said no. I asked my wife to marry me probably 50 times before she finally said yes.

It sounds more like you have a bad case of depression and may want to see a counselor. I know for a fact that we are all responsible in life for what we are and what we do. You are NOT UGLY, unless you choose to believe you are UGLY. You may not be Tom Cruise or Burt Reynolds, but neither are your buddies that are poking fun at you.

They are probably just extremely jealous of your intelligence and wish that they could be as good as you are at what you have chosen to do.

Hope this helps

Keep in touch

Have a great day

Jerry
