Weightlifting & Exercise - I'm hopeless...

Expert: Jerry Goodwin - 4/9/2009

Question
Hello Jerry,

my name is Danielle, and I hope I'm wrong about the "hopeless" title to my post. I'm 5' 10" about 160lbs, and not as shapely as I would like to be. I love sports, basketball mainly, and I love to workout. Is there a workout website that could show me a basketball workout as well as the diet I would need to be on? I just want to lose fat, tone my upper body, and build my lower body; no matter how much I try, I just can't do it on my own. Especially the diet, I work a 9-5 and it's very hard to eat healthy and 6 meals a day to keep up my metabolism. Am I hopeless? I don't know, though, if an off-season workout would be better than a regular in-season? Do I sound crazy? Can you help me?

Answer
Hi Danielle,

You are only hopeless if you allow yourself to give up hope. You or your situation is not hopeless, you are just a little depressed, and if you are willing to try some new things that you have probably not tried before then you are far from hopeless. You are all-powerful when it comes to body transformation, you decide how you want to look and you can make it happen. It may not be easy and you may need help to change your mindset, but you can do it. Once you get your mind changed then your body will follow, it has no choice.

My friend and business mentor Mark Hendricks has a great program called the Ultimate Success Program.  Even if you don't buy the program at least get the free part, there is a ton of great info there. Mark is one of the most successful men I know.
send me an email at jerry@bmgfitness.com and I will send you the link. Make sure to put Mark's Course or something like that in the Subject line or I may delete it by mistake, I get lots of junk ,mail and delete most of it.  He offers a special of 3 weeks free I think. and I have found it unbelievably empowering.

You don't have to do it on your own, there is plenty of help, and if you ever need it all you have to do is ask,I am here and there are a lot of others that are willing to help.

As far as the diet, just start making healthier choices, such as instead of buying a candy bar and bag of chips out of the vending machine, stop by the grocery and pick up some healthy snacks to put in your desk, use them instead, saves you money and saves you calories, plus makes you look and feel better. Maybe keep some dried fruit in your desk or locker, stay away from processed food as much as possible. Stay away from sodas and use drinks like crystal light in its place or water is even better.

As far as 6 meals a day go, just do what you can and don't beat yourself up about it. You have to make the decision and we all make mistakes so just do the best you can.

Keep playing basketball, it is great exercise, and here is a workout that will help build muscle www.bmgfitness.com/workout.pdf I know it says Men's health on it, don't worry the muscles don't know the difference.

Also check out my website at www.bmgfitness.com, lots of great free information and some not free too at that site. Take a look there, and definitely check out Marks Course. Personally I think your main problem is a slight bit of depression and that you can overcome that.

You can do this, you can transform your body, but first we must help you transform your mind.

One thing that you may want to do is to enter a body transformation contest. My wife and I completed two Body For Life Competitions several years back. There are now several similar contests going on, just google "Body Transformation Contests" I  found 4080 sites about that.

If you need help, just email me and I will do whatever I can.

Have a great day, in fact make this the greatest day of the rest of your life, you can do it, I KNOW you can.

Henry Ford said "if You Think you can't or you Think you can, you're right."

It is time to change your mind THINK YOU CAN do this, and you will do it. the power of the mind is far beyond what we can understand.

Hope this helps

Jerry
