Weightlifting & Exercise - skinny elbows

Expert: Jerry Goodwin - 4/8/2009

Question
hi there. i'm quite embarrased about my elbows because i am quite underweight and if you look at my arm from the front or the back, my forearm is thicker than my upper arm so there is a big dip on the inside of my arm from the forearm to the upper arm and my elbow bone sticks out (kind of like the cartoon characte Popeye). From the side it looks fine as my biceps are quite tones. I was wondering if there were any exercise with weights etc that could help to conceal this and thicken my upper arm for example by making my biceps wider or something? Thanks, Mike.

Answer
Hi Mike,

You can do numerous exercises to help build up the arm muscles which will improve the appearance of the arms (guns as they are often called in bodybuilding).

Here is a workout that should help, it is a whole body workout but really we all need to workout all the body, not just the arms or  the problem areas. www.bmgfitness.com/workout.pdf

Adding some extra protein and possibly some creatine may help also. The triceps are actually a larger group of muscles than the biceps, so if you do exercises that target the Triceps that should help the arm development as much or more than doing extra biceps exercises.

A healthy diet rich in lean protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats should also help add some pounds onto your frame, You may also want to check out a site of a person I know at www.skinnyguy.net, he specializes in helping thin people gain quality weight.

Hope this helps

Have a great day

Jerry
