Question Hi Brad
A coworker told me he spent $125 on a fitness consultation from a professional trainer for advice on getting rid of the belly, and what it boiled down to was to walk lots and eat less.
Sounds pretty simplistic, but looking back to the time when I was slimmer I DID walk a lot (no car).
I have a treadmill which I prefer using to walking outside because I can watch TV. I run/jog for 45 minutes which I TRY to do at least three times a week, but even though I wear good shoes and try to maintain good form, I am usually sore the next day (I am 55) so I skip a workout, then skip another, and usually end up running only once a week.
If I tried walking at a good clip I could probably maintain that workout to possibly once a day.
Is regular fast walking as good as running to burn fat? This goes aginst most of the info I see on the net, which calls for 90 minutes of running three times a week, interval training, etc.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Answer Hello Barrymore,
So your question is does regular fast walking as good as running to burn fat? To be honest, niether burns fat directly. Both are considered "cardio" and both are used in conjunction with good nutrition to decrease fat. So both will work, running just works faster because it expends more energy in a shorter period of time. However, running will not work if you don't do it consistently. So if you choose to fast walk because you can do it consistently, go for it because that is whats important.
