AboutBrad J Loomis Expertise I am a WNBF natural professional bodybuilder and fitness trainer who is well versed in Exercise Physiology and Kinesiology. I am equally well versed in muscle hypertrophy and fat reduction. I have coached male, female, and teenage competitors all to top 5 finishes, 2 with class wins. Competition prep and posing are other subjects I love to teach. I am very good with nutrition, but will admit that I am not a dietician. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Radiologic Science, a Personal Training Certification with the IDEA Health and Fitness Association and am a certified RKC (Russian Kettlebell Challenge) Instructor. I am most knowledgeable in Anatomy, kinesiology and Exercise Execution, especially Compound and Isolation free weight exercises. I also love to answer questions about motivation.
Experience I have won 3 overall titles with the ABA/INBA and several class wins. In August 2008 I won the Overall title for the INBF Washington State Natural Bodybuilding Championships earning my WNBF Pro Card. I have owned and operated "Healthy Bodies Fitness" in Portola, CA for 6 years. During that time I have taught literally hundreds of clients in nearly every way. You name it and I have used it as an avenue for coaching/teaching. One on one personal training, seminars, 10 week challenges, week long courses, group training, step aerobics, what ever it takes to spread the word of health and fitness and keep my business thriving in a small community. I have also authored a book "Design your own NUTRITION" which is being represented by ST Literary Agency.

Question I currently workout every morning. it is mostly upper body.
my routine is:biceps,a set of 20 reps @110 lbs. on a
machine. followed by pulldowns(hands wide on the bar.),a set
of 20 reps @ 110 lbs.on a machine. a set of 20 flys (lying
down my back on a bench using 35 lb. dumbbells. and lastly a
set of 30 setups with a 25 lb. weight on my chest.I do three
sets of all these excersizes every morning. I am 57 years
old.I am told this is overdoing it. I also ride a bike and
go hiking with a boy scout troop. any input is welcome.
Thanks,Woodie
Answer Hello Timothy,
So why would you think you are overdoing it? Did someone tell you that who's opinion you hold highly? Do you feel pain or soreness when you work out? Do you just feel that 57 years old is just to old to be working out and taking care of your body?
What if I told you about 70 year old men that work out 4 days a week? What if I told you about 80 year old men that workout? Is that hard to believe? Well I know these men personally. I will include a link for a video of them below for you to see for yourself.
All these guys follow the Maximum Overload Training program located at www.ast-ss.com They may not be able to be as aggressive in the application of the principles, but they still apply them, just less frequently. You too can take the Max-OT course by using the link below.

As long as you are feeling strong, energetic, and without major aches and pains you are doing great. Only change your exercise and nutrition habits according to those criteria. Otherwise, take every one elses "advice" with a grain of salt.
Lastly make sure you are taking in enough good fuel. Max-OT has some great nutritional recomendations in the course you could try as well.
Good Luck Timothy, stick with it and don't let anyone deter you.
