Weightlifting & Exercise - training frequency

Expert: Vveth Hammer - 6/29/2009

Question
I'm 43 years old and up until this point I've always strength trained three to four times per week. My routine is similar to yours (minimalist w/ emphasis on full-body). I also like to run medium distances or intervals once a week. I guess I've always stuck to the idea that to get stronger I need to train as often as possible, but in recent years I'm starting to get nagging joint injuries. Do you think I would be better off just training once or twice a week, and if so, how would you structure a routine around overhead presses, front squats, pull-ups, and deadlifts?

Answer
I recomend you lift on the weekends.

saturday=
deadlifts
overhead press

sunday=
front squats
pullups
overhead press.

I might do some minimal variation of the overhead press, maybe width of grip or pushpress saturday and pause press sunday.
