Hi,

I was wondering if it was OK to do exercise, especially weight-training while doing a 16-day water-fast. Is this OK? Thanks, Geoff.

Hi Geoff,

So sorry for the delay in responding. Questions weren't being sent to my email.

It depends on why you are doing the fast and what type of lifting and "exercising" you are doing. I also have to wonder why 16 days. 3-7 is the norm depending upon your goals.  

Personally, I would NEVER do just a water fast because I don't want to lose muscle density or athletic ability. I do fast twice a year for 5 days to cleanse my body, balance out body chemistry and just for mental empowerment but I always take to protein drinks a day. They have zero sugar or carbs in them. They also taste disgusting but I just choke them down with water and know I'm preserving lean body mass while not taking in any actual food.

We have a 3 day fast as part of our Belly Blast program but that is strictly veggies and water for 3 days. Clients do their normal workouts but may lower weights or take longer breaks between sets and the only cardio they do is HIIT to encourage their bodies to burn not store fat.
