Weightlifting & Exercise - Bicep and forearms problems

Expert: Brian - 7/12/2006

Question
Hi there, I'm a male 19 year old and I've been weightlifting for about 3 years now.  I have noticed a difference in my physique in most areas except my biceps and forearms.  Whilst my biceps are fairly large I have noticed that when the muscle contracts, there is a part of my arm after the bicep that is just flat, with no muscle and looks a bit odd. I don't know whether this is from doing bicep exercises wrong and not developing the full muscle properly.  Also I don't really know any exercises to build up my forearms and wrists because they are very thin compared to the rest of my arms.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Craig. What you describe is fairly common. Sometimes as your muscles start growing, they reach an in between phase where the shape looks a little odd. Or sometimes, that's just they way your muscle structure is. Don't worry about it.

For forearms, you can do reverse curls, hammer curls and wrist curls.
