Question Male 39, lifting 1 year.
To get more muscle defitinition or more cuts, is it better to do heavier weights and less reps or lighter weights and more reps?
Answer Ted - Let me explain something. To have a "cut" look, you need to be relatively lean--meaning pretty low amount of bodyfat. In order to achieve that , running and cardio are the fastest ways to work off extra weight.
Some people prefer to lift weights than to run. For them, the prescription is not really light weights, more reps, but very short rest between sets (less than 1 minute), still doing sets of 8. In order to shorten your rest, you end up using somewhat lighter weights. Light weight and high rep sets are really not beneficial.
You also need to have a certain amount of muscle mass to have a "cut" kind of look. People looking to gain mass should go with heavier, and take a longer rest between sets. For most people, sets of 8 are the most beneficial.
