Hi Johnny,
Thanks for you input. It was good to hear from an expert regarding the bulking up. I do have some question about your reply, I guess I'm not catching on to the sports language. You had mention the Plyometrics and the cardio(can that be running?) are those in addition to what you had written down for the daily workouts? What are A-Skips and Ice Skates on Tues? And 1 last question - when you say "change up for another program" what does that mean?   I did try to look on the www.everyday-bodies.com website but I am having trouble getting on to it. Do I have the site correct?
Thanks soooo much again! from MOM

My son is a Junior in High School & plays hockey. What is a good off-season workout for a hockey player, something that will take him thru November? My son and his friends are using a body builders workout/bulking up the muscles. I am in question whether "bulking up" is good, this might bulk him up too much and he will loose the quickness and endurance that I believe is necessary in hockey.
Answer -
Hello MOM,

For the sport that your son is playing BULK is not what he wants. He has to keep up the Speed, Agility and Quikness. Without this his reation time will go DOWN. What you are looking for is a periodization program, when the season is over a week or two off swimming, biking, or another low intensity sport etc.. The program he would follow would be Plyometrics, weights and cardio ( 20, 30, 45 min endurance 2-3 days a week ).

Mon:

Olympic Lifts
Back
Chest
Shoulders

Tue:

High knees
A-Skips
Ice Skates
Arm Exercises

Wed:

Core Training (ABs, Hips, Lower Back)

Thur:

What you did on Mon.

Fri:

Full Body

Sat& Sun:

Off

This is what you would do for a 3-5 week workout and then change up from there for another program. We have an online program ( in detail) that we help all types of athletes for their season (www.everyday-bodies.com). If more info please e-mail through site also. Hope this helps.

Answer
Hello MOM,

You have the right web address, you can also try google or yahoo to enter the address.

1.Plyometrics: Is when the body has to prepare for eccentric movement then react fast to an concentric movement ( like trying to score ( the strike ) before
the opposite team stop the shot. This work would only be twice a week.

2.Cardio: Would be after the training session so he has enough energy to complete the workout. It can also be running but he would have to switch up so the body can
not get use to it. This is additional to the program.

3.A-Skips: Is a perfect skip when you are driving the front knee to the chest while posture is straight and rear leg is longated.

4.Ice Skaters: It's a movement like skating but pushing off lateraly on one foot and quickly repeating off the other foot over an object that's one way.

Now on the change up of the programs, he's looking to enhance his power, strength, quickness and agility so the workouts always help to improve thess factors. Hope this helps. You can also reach us on this e-mail ( everyday-bodies@pandora.be ) if any more quests.
