Weightlifting & Exercise - Not sure of my current routine

Expert: Brian - 10/29/2006

Question
Hey Brian,
I am a 19 year old male who has been lifting for about a year now. My current routine is Monday: chest/triceps, Tuesday: shoulder/abs, Wednesday: back/biceps, Thursday: off, Friday: chest/triceps (repeat). I am not sure if this allows enough recovery time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
Doug - This workout is fine. I wouldn't shorten the time between workouts any more than this. At your age, 4 days of recovery is enough. When you get a little older (mid-20's) you should consider making it a week recovery time (i.e., only do each muscle group once per week).
