Weightlifting & Exercise - lower back

Question
Hello Johnny
I am 45 year old male,in good health, except for the beer belly.
I have a recurring lower back problem where I strain a muscle on the right side. The pain and stiffness usually goes away after a couple of days.
I stretch and occasionaly to a yoga routine, but I was wondering if there were any exercises using weights(I have a set and a bench)that I could do?
Also,I plan on playing soccer this summer for the first time, which should reduce the belly.
Aside from running, what can I do with my weights to help with that? Thanks

Answer
Hello Barry,

If possible you want to start doing cardio (30-60 min walking, bike or running) and weight training at the same time and stick with yoga or pilates to help the LB pain. To get a solid base from training Start with doing the Bi curls, Chest press, Shoulder press, Lying Tri extentions, Bent over rows, Squats w/ DB press, Lunges w/ DB's and seated lateral raise (2-3 sets, 6-12 reps, 30 sec-1 min rest). Those are the type of exercise that can be done with your equipment. If you want more exercises to build on we offer an online training program that can guid you (www.everyday-bodies.com). Hope this helps you out.
