Question Hi,
My name is Brian, I'm 24 and I've been lifting for 8 months. For the last year I've been trying to gain weight and I have found some success. I went from 137 to currently 162. I have noticable muscle gain but also some noticable fat gain. At first I didn't care about fat, but now after stalling out in the last couple of months I went to recharge my routine and gain strictly muscle. What advice do you have to get some better muscle gains? I've been trying to get make to the discipline and intensity I had when I first started but I've been stuggling to keep focused. Any advice will help, Thanks, Brian
Answer Hi Brian. Fat gains along with muscle gains generally are the result of diet (getting too many calories). A common misconception that people have is that there are certain exercises that will reduce this.
A suggestion I'd have for you is to change your routine up a bit by simply doing this: reduce the rest between sets to something very short (1 minute or less). This will keep your heart rate up which will make you burn more calories. You'll probably end up using somewhat lighter weights as a result, but try this for several weeks and see how it goes. Since you're resting less, you can probably add a set or two to each of your exercises too.
This will give your workout a different kind of intensity (more along the lines of quick moving and endurance).
