Weightlifting & Exercise - weight loss heart rate

Expert: Jerry Goodwin - 12/27/2006

Question
I want to lose fat through exercise.  I swim 60min once a week (about 1 1/2 miles) and 3x a wk I do the elliptical for 40min then some crunches.  I've done this for 3 months and not lost weight-but gone from resting heart rate of about 72 to 62.(During summer I swam 4x a week and lost one pant size but no weight.)When swimming/running on elliptical, my heart rate is generally 120-150.  What would be a target heart rate for fat burning?  (I'm 40, 175lbs, 5'7")

Answer
Hi Amy,

First let me ask what does your diet look like? It should be high in complex carbs like fresh fruits and vegetables, salads etc.

It sounds like you are very likely losing fat but building some muscle. This is why the scales don't change much but the body shape does. Losing pant sizes is a much better way of measuring progress than the scales.

To burn the most fat add some resistance exercise to your routine. When you build muscle the muscle will help burn fat. The elliptical and the swimming does help with this but not as much as some resistance exercises would.

You may want to hire a personal trainer for at least a few weeks to learn how to do exercises and to help you with form/

If you want some quick weight loss try going to a Natural Health Food Store and getting some "cleansing" products to remove the dead material from your colon. It is estimated that most of us carry between 10-15 pounds of dried dead fecal matter in our colons. There are several cleanses and most people need to clean themselves out good because we all put so much garbage into our bodies. The processed food, fast food and all the toxins build up and cause a blockage so the food doesn't digest well.

You may want to check out www.naturalcures.com in regards to the best cleansing products for weight loss. It is very likely that several cleanses would be needed to get your body "reset"

You should also get a copy of Jon Benson's ebook "Simply Eat" as it has the best lifelong nutrition plan I have seen yet. You can go to my website www.bmgfitness.com click on products and then about 1/2 way down the products page you will see a link to Jon's book. If you order through that link, send me a copy of the receipt and I will send you over 1000.00 in bonus reports and software.

To help with exercises you can go to bmgfitness.com and click on the exercise library link. You will find exercises to help with just about everything there.

Get a copy of my ebook free by sending a blank email to diets31768@getresponse.com and my free report on getting healthy and fit by sending a blank email to bikeman31768@getresponse.com

Hope this helps

Have a great day
