Weightlifting & Exercise - wieght loss

Expert: Brian - 11/29/2006

Question
what would be better to do to loss wieght I am 38 and 260 5'9'', wieght training or a elliptical machine

Answer
Jeff - The answer is more complicated than you might originally think.

You will burn calories faster, and therefore lose weight faster, doing cardio exercises like an elliptical.

But, what if you hate doing it? What if you dread it? Then you may do really well for a few weeks, even a few months, but you'll have a hard time sticking with it long enough to lose the weight you wanted to when you started. If you like it, or can combine it with something else you like to do (reading, music, TV), then elliptical is better than weightlifting.

If you prefer weightlifting, you can definitely lose weight doing so. And if it's something you like, you can more easily stick to it.
