Subject: TIG Welding Gas

Question
I am just learning the to TIG weld and would like to know the best shielding gas
to us.  I have heard opinions including 100% Argon, and various blends of Argon
with either Helium or CO2.

Answer
Hi, 100% Argon is pretty much the most widely used sheilding gas you will see in any welding shop. I use a Helium/Argon mix when welding large Aluminum parts. Everything else (Steel,Stainless, light Aluminum parts) gets welded with 100% Argon. Mix the Helium/Argon yourself using a "Y" splitter, Ive never had a good premix from the gas supply companies, mixing yourself also allows you an infinite ratio of mixture, plus you can fill baloons with the Helium for parties! Good luck,
