I have had the privilege of hearing both lions and tigers roar at night on multiple occasions. infact it was the tigers roaring tonight that made me search this very subject! Hearing either animal is a feral, primordial sound that takes the listener far back to a primitive past, but without doubt the Lion has more depth to its roar, it is a more resonating sound and essentially more fear inducing. The lion is louder and the sound carries farther.
