Expert: Edward Date: 7/7/2008 Subject: abandond or lost baby robin in feebee nest!!!????
Question Edward,
I found a baby robin under a freebie nest this after noon & was very puzzled, then I remembered that some birds lay their eggs in other's nests, I wondered if that had any thing to d with it? but there are lots of robins, Mayby 4 or 5 flying around and calling& there seems to be a specific two leading this possible search party. What should I do? The baby is almost full grown & lust need it's tail & wing feathers to finish growing in. Should I put it back in the nest that I found it under, take care of it till it grows up, just leave it alone, or take it to the-not-so-skilled-in-raising-birds wild life center? Thanks!

Answer Hello Raphaela.
It is very odd for a baby robin to be in a nest other than its own. the bird you are thinking of is the cuckoo or the cowbird, and that is not the case here. What may have happened would be that the baby tried to get back to its own nest, and it crawled into that one instead. I would think it best just to leave the bird alone and see what happens. Please keep me updated!
