Question
Hi Catherine -
I need advise on drape color for my master bedroom , here are a few details
wall paint color - light blue
white crown molding thru out the room
furniture - deep brown
bedding collection - Ralph Lauren Putney Pasiley ( blue tones)
comforter  with navy box in the center of the comforter
sheets - blue and white stripe
shams - white / blue
throw pillows  - one pasiley,  one navy velvet

i was thinking of navy drapes with blue  sheers ( from american living jc penny)

can you please suggest drapes ( i have a double window and a single window)

Answer
Hi Rosalie,

I looked up the Putney paisley--good pic on Amazon.com showing it paired with navy sheets & pillows.  Navy would also be my first choice for the drapery because I think it would help to balance the dark furniture with the lighter elements.  Add a navy pillow or two to the bedding.

For privacy I would rather see you use a more updated look rather than the sheers.  With the light blue walls & white accents, I like the idea of pairing white woven-wood shades (cottagy/earthy), white roman shades (updated modern/transitional) or even white wood blinds (traditional).  You'll need more white to balance out the other colors & to keep the room feeling light when the draperies are open.

Blinds are easier to operate on a daily basis.  Also, if you go with blinds for privacy, you would only need one pair of panels per window as they would be decorative only.

I carry B&W Window Fashions woven woods -- many styles & several different whites to choose from, for a reasonable price, so could give you an idea of price if you'd like further info.  I also carry HunterDouglas wood blinds though you can find them all over the internet too, at all different qualities & prices.  You may find inexpensive Roman shades (ikea comes to mind) but they are usually not lined--otherwise most are custom made.  For a regular 30" window mine would run about $175-$200, just to give an idea of expense.

Good Luck!  Let me know how it turns out!

Sincerely,
Catherine Eveler
