Question
I want to make valances for  2 windows 38 inches wide and 1 window 54 inches wide how much fabric will i need.  Thank You

Answer
Hi Ruby

Assuming it is a plain fabric with no pattern that needs to be matched. Also assuming a finished sewn valance depth of 12 inches you would need 3 yards of fabric. This is if your fabric is 54 inches wide.

This is allowing 15 inches of fabric in total depth to make a 12 inch deep valance. I have allowed for 2.5 times the window width on each curtain valance.

Your 38 inch wide valances would need 2 widths of fabric at 15 inches deep.

Your 54 inch wide valance would need 3 widths of fabric at 15 inches deep.

I have allowed for the valance to return about 4 or 5 inches back to the wall on each side as this takes a little more fabric. These calculations allow for a fully gathered valance on 3 inch pencil pleating curtain tape.

I think that's about it, hope that helps.

Best regards

Lee
