Expert: Lee Stevens - 11/4/2009
Question Hi Lee,
I am getting a pair of pinch pleat panels that are 168" wide (total) and 110" length. I plan to layer a sheer of the same size underneath the panels. I would like to put them on a decorative traverse rod.
What kind/brand of decorative traverse rods will be sturdy enough to hold curtains of this width and length? What are all the hardware I will need to buy for the 2 pairs of curtains?
Answer Hi Johanna
You are going to struggle to find a decorative traverse rod the width that you want. Even if you found one it would not be a double rod to support your main curtains and then your sheers.
I don't know if it would appeal to you or not but I would go with standard corded metal traverse rods. Two exactly the same. I would fit them under a top board about 8 inches wide fitted over your window. It's basically a shelf fitted over your window on simple shelf brackets. Then you fit your tracks under the shelf one to the back of the board and one to the front of the board.
Then finally to hide the board and tracks I would fit a fabric covered pelmet to the front edge of the top board using velcro tape.
If you need some more idea on this take a look at the page below. Just copy and paste into your web browser.

Also take a look at this page to see the kind of traverse rods I mean.
