currently working in an IT Department...I dont answer any Questions about Server Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Products....As the freqent questions about Password related topics are rising up, i dont answer any Questions about "How do i logon my system when i forgot my password". Answering this would be against the laws in my country, and excuse me, i dont know you and nobody can prove me that you really want to log on to your pc and not anyone else. Thx in advance.

Question
Hi Thomas,
I had seen those MS Kbs, but none of them really helped.
I've tried doing the "Last Good known Configuration" from the F8 menu, but that only took me to the same blue error screen.

This problem started when I tried to install a Generic PCI controller driver using the Hardware Wizard.  That's the last thing I did, so I was hoping for some guidance that would help me undo that?

Would you know if I could hunt down a file from the DOS command line (booting from a floppy), and hopefully replace it with a good file?  If so, what kind of a file and location should I be looking for?

Thanks a bunch for your help!
Alex.

Answer
the problem is that you must edit the registry which is not possible from a command prompt...install windows 2000 over itself , or make a rescue installation on a different partition..then backup your data and make a clean reinstallation of the whole system

best regards

Thomas
