Windows 7/Windows Messenger

Question
QUESTION: James
You have just given an excellent answer to a question which will save me investigating the system to make changes. I am a bit of a novice (although I did a clean install of W7 from Vista) and  would like to ask you one more question. My previous question was on Windows Live Mail. As you know it has the rather ubiquitous Windows Messenger which I do not want to use. Could I get rid of it altogether to stop it popping up? Many thanks indeed. Graham

ANSWER: Hi again Graham, and thanks for your comments.

You can do one of two things depending on your preference:

Stop it starting up (but keeping the program, better if you have any kids etc)
Remove it altogether (if you don't use it, you may as well get rid of it)

Which method do you want instructions for? Up to you!

QUESTION: James,
I am eighty years old and will never use it, so delete it is my preference. So far I have merely turned it off in the startup menu. Again thank you for your great kindness in providing solutions. It means an enormous amount to people like me to get a good straightforward answer from you.

Answer
Hi Graham,

If you go to the start menu, click on Control Panel, and select Uninstall a program from the options given, you should then have a long list of programs which are installed on your computer.

Windows Live Messenger might be 'filed' under that name ("Windows Live Messenger") or it may be under the Windows Live program set, so find whichever one is there, and use the uninstall button to remove it.
