Windows 7/Windows 7

Question
Hello Mike

I have a few questions that I hope you can help with.
I run win 7 Home Edition on a stand alone PC, connected to the Internet

I have a Win account set as Admin and 3 Standard accounts, one fr me and the others for family use.

I would like the ability to use perhaps VNC to run, so I can "see" what is going on my PC if needed from time to time, via my smartphone (Android). I used to uses this as part of my job years ago when I was in IT

The other question, can I disable the ability for my PC to boot into safe mode? Again a bit OTT but I do have a concern, that this could be used to get around passwords etc in Windows, so want to tie this down.

Many thanks

Roger

Answer
Hello Roger

First off, you are not going to want to use VNC.. not very good/secure, etc
Use Logmein (http://logmain.com) and get yourself a free account. When you set it up on the computer, go in to the logmein settings and disable the icon on the system tray (which will mean people can't mess with it)

As for the account administration. Going in to safe mode will not allow a user to access the account administrative settings unless that user already has administrative privileges.

Just be sure the account you have as the administrator has a password and no other accounts have administrative level, that way they can not change the passwords.

I hope this helps,

Sincerely

Expertise

As I have been volunteering in the 'windows' category since the inception of AllExperts, which has now moved to numerous windows categories. I will therefore be happy to answer any Windows 7,8 and 10 based question. What can't I answer? Not much, as this is the main reason I volunteered here, because I am hopeful the questions I can not answer will allow me to investigate the problem so that I can answer it. The TIPS and SOFTWARE support through my website at http://tpsconsulting.com can also be of some help.

Experience

I have owned my own computer consulting business for the past 17 years and since the very beginning I have volunteered with AllExperts in the hopes I would be able to learn from others mistakes and problems. The goal for me is to be able to research any problem I don't initially have the answer to, in the hopes I will be able to further benefit for my own clients when they come across a similar problem.
