Windows 7/address box problem

Question
I run windows 7 using Internet explorer browser and Google as home page, and always have. I used to be able to type an address straight into the address box, but now I always have to use the Google box because I get an error message if I use the address box saying," The remote devise or resource won't accept the connection." Moving the cursor to this error message I noticed a further message saying, " The device or resource is not set up to accept connections on port https." Please can you advise how to put my computer back to accepting addresses?

Answer
Hello Tom

I must say I cringe every time someone writes to me with a problem they are having when using the Internet Explorer. Quite honestly it is THE WORST browser currently out there, not only for speed but for security. Microsoft is constantly attempting to change and correct things to re-claim some of the browser market but to no avail.  The problems you are having are most likely related to other issues on your computer. Because the internet explorer is part of the windows operating system, even if you aren't using the IE browser, it still utilizes parts of this to access the internet for other browsers. I suggest you start using the Google Chrome browser as it is BY FAR the safest, fastest and most flexible browser currently available. As well I suggest making sure you have all the latest windows updates, not just the critical  ones but all others that may be available. As well I suggest reading my TIPS page on OPTIMIZING your computer from the website at http://tpsconsulting.com  Then go to the SOFTWARE/SUPPORT page where you should install all the items from the PINK section which will include CCLEANER and MALWAREBYTES. These two programs alone do a very good job of routine maintenance and removal from the spyware/malware and registry errors left behind from old programs.  You can learn how to use CCLEANER to its best potential from either of these links:  http://www.wikihow.com/Use-CCleaner

or  this one:  http://www.howtogeek.com/113382/how-to-use-ccleaner-like-a-pro-9-tips-tricks/

I hope this helps

Sincerely

Windows 7

Expertise

As I have been volunteering in the 'windows' category since the inception of AllExperts, which has now moved to numerous windows categories. I will therefore be happy to answer any Windows 7,8 and 10 based question. What can't I answer? Not much, as this is the main reason I volunteered here, because I am hopeful the questions I can not answer will allow me to investigate the problem so that I can answer it. The TIPS and SOFTWARE support through my website at http://tpsconsulting.com can also be of some help.

Experience

I have owned my own computer consulting business for the past 17 years and since the very beginning I have volunteered with AllExperts in the hopes I would be able to learn from others mistakes and problems. The goal for me is to be able to research any problem I don't initially have the answer to, in the hopes I will be able to further benefit for my own clients when they come across a similar problem.
