Windows 7/Win 7, Itunes 12, miising music

Happy new year Mike

Hello mike

I run win 7 re-installed iTunes 12. My music folder is set in iTunes preferences. Checked through Win Explorer that the music is there, most of this from my CD's, which I have used in the past with iTunes.
On running iTunes the only music it sees are the songs I have purchases. I have double checked the file path etc and the folders themselves, a bit stuck. If you can offer any ideas that would be great.
Thank you

Hello Roger and Happy New Year!

What you are going to need to do is get itunes to scan your music folder again by simply adding it to the library.

click in the upper left corner, the settings button and then choose  SHOW MENU BAR. This is the first step since for whatever reason they remove it each new program build but it is very useful to have available all the time. As you will now want to click on FILE then on ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY and browse to your music folder and select the entire thing. Don't worry if it also includes music that is already in your list as you can then choose to find and remove duplicates or simply do not show duplicates (you don't actually have to delete them)

That should do it.

The following links from the apple help forum may provide you with some support if you still require this:     <--be aware of this one however since you are on a pc and it wants you to select the checkbox "keep itunes media folder organized" which I DO NOT suggest as this will make changes to your file explorer data and make it more difficult for windows explorer. If you only use itunes then you should have this checked.. visit the following link for more information on this:

Hope this helps

As I have been volunteering in the 'windows' category since the inception of AllExperts, which has now moved to numerous windows categories. I will therefore be happy to answer any Windows 7,8 and 10 based question. What can't I answer? Not much, as this is the main reason I volunteered here, because I am hopeful the questions I can not answer will allow me to investigate the problem so that I can answer it. The TIPS and SOFTWARE support through my website at can also be of some help.

I have owned my own computer consulting business for the past 17 years and since the very beginning I have volunteered with AllExperts in the hopes I would be able to learn from others mistakes and problems. The goal for me is to be able to research any problem I don't initially have the answer to, in the hopes I will be able to further benefit for my own clients when they come across a similar problem.
